Impossible
It may be Impossible, but the possibilities are endless!
Impossible brand is by far the best for meatless beef. It looks, cooks, and tastes almost exactly like real meat- it seems impossible! As a meat eater, I approve this delicious meat alternative.
When you get a package of Impossible, it actually looks like meat. The uncooked product is red, just like real beef. You can use this in place of beef in any recipe and it cooks to brown the same way! If you’re looking for something low-cal, this isn’t it. In 4 oz. of Impossible burger, there are 240 calories, which is only slightly less than real beef. Also, for those of you who need to watch your blood pressure, Impossible actually has a much higher amount of sodium. However, whereas beef is pretty high in cholesterol, Impossible has no cholesterol at all! The meat alternative also has just as much protein and actually has more iron than real beef (what?!), which is actually their secret to success.
Not only does Impossible taste great, it’s also great for the environment. The Impossible burger requires 96% less land, 87% less water, and contributes 89% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a beef burger! See more about environmental impact here.
What makes Impossible so impossibly good? The beefy flavor actually comes from heme, which is the iron-containing compound that’s found in blood. Don’t worry- this heme doesn’t come from any animals. The folks at Impossible genetically engineered yeast with the gene for soy leghemoglobin. So they’re basically making blood in a lab, which is why I accused them of using the vegetarian food as a front to hide the fact that there are now vampires drinking Tru Blood thanks to their research. They did not deny it. Learn more about heme here.
Plus, when you eat Impossible, you can earn cool gear. You can create a TastePlace account and upload photos of your receipts from purchasing Impossible in grocery stores and restaurants or photos of your food to earn points. Once you have enough points, you can redeem them for things like t-shirts, socks, cookbooks, and much more! Plus they send these cool stickers with the swag you earned.
